The father of tragic cricketlegend Shane Warne has just revealed he received a deeply personal letter from King Charles following the death of his son.

In a rare interview, Warne’s father Keith has revealed that Charles sent a personal note to himself and wife Bridgette after Warne’s shock death in March, 2022. Keith was speaking after details of a three day charity golf event in memory of the Australianspinner is to be held next month.

Keith said: “The King sent the letter to us when he was Prince Charles. He said it was a huge loss. To get a letter from him meant a lot.
"We got thousands of letters and cards. It was impossible to answer them all. The response was just incredible really."

Keith said though his son died almost four years ago he has an eternal presence in the Warne family decision-making process.

“A day does not go past without me thinking of him. We have got daily and weekly things happening and he is on our minds all the time.

“Since his passing, whenever any member of the family or the Shane Warne Legacy have a decision to make one of the first things we would say is “what would Shane do? What would Shane want?

“And we come up with the answer. I have seen so many You Tube videos on Shane. They are just everywhere. I still watch them and enjoy them.’’

Shane loved the Ashesand his final gesture of generosity to Australia’s ancient foe England came just three months before his death when he arranged for a helicopter to fly the England team to Kerry Packer’s private golf course outside Melbourne during the 2021-22 Ashes.

The tourists presented Warne with a bottle of wine as a token of their appreciation, unaware that soon after Warne would be hit with a bill for more than $20,000 for the flights and food.
Rather than spoil the vibe by passing the bill on to the English players, Warne quietly paid it himself. "He was very good like that,’’ Keith said.

“He was always very quick to look after people. I remember one tour of the West Indies when families were having difficulty getting from place to place and he organised and paid for transport.’’ The event will honour Shane and the late allrounder Andrew Symonds at a golf tournament and dinner at the Gold Coast’s Royal Pines Resort from November 27.

Earlier this year Shane’s son spoke for the first time about the ”worst phone call of my life” when he heard his dad had suddenly died.

Jackson described the moments when time stood still after his dad died from a heart attack at the age of 52. And he said sadly: “I found out at the same time as the rest of the world.”

Jackson said: “Worst phone call of my life -it was James Erskine, dad’s manager. It was in two separate phone calls — the first phone call was he’s had a heart attack, it was a massive heart attack and we’re trying to see what we can do. "

“Then it was an hour and a half and the worst hour and a half of all time. I was with my partner, my mum, my older sister Brooke and her partner. It was just the worst hour and a half — we were like what the f. -what’s just happened.”
