Danish series The Asset made its debut on Netflix yesterday and is already climbing the UK charts.

The pacy crime drama, which follows an undercover agent as she explores a dark criminal underworld, also has some familiar faces in its cast.

The synopsis for the show reads: "The aspiring police cadet, Tea, goes undercover as a jeweler to infiltrate a brutal criminal environment that has eluded the grasp of the intelligence service for some time.

"Adopting a completely new identity, she must befriend the criminal mastermind's wife, Ashley, to gather crucial intelligence.

"As Tea gets closer to Ashley and witnesses the grim reality of her life under her husband's control and within his criminal cobweb, doubts emerge about where her loyalty truly lies."

Meanwhile, The Asset's Conceptual Director, Samanou Acheche Sahlstrøm, gave some more insight into the series, saying: "I was drawn to tell this story because it explores the complexities of identity and loyalty under extreme pressure.

"Through Tea's journey, we see how far someone is willing to go to do what they believe is right - also, when the lines between good and evil become blurred.

"I have always wanted to work on a crime series that puts its characters, their development and their relations to each other at the very center of the story. This is precisely what The Asset does."

Clara Dessau plays lead character Tea, who risks her safety by going undercover and becoming friends with the wife of a criminal mastermind.

TV fans may recognise Clara from Danish shows like Baby Fever and Lover, as well as from the 2024 short film Duty Free.

Maria Cordsen and Afshin Firouzi also star in the show, taking on the roles of Ashley and Miran respectively.

Maria and Afshin have both appeared together in the TV shows Darkness: Those Who Kill and Fredlos.

Other cast members include The Killing's Nicolas Bro, Happiness star Soheil Bavi, When the Dust Settles actor Arian Kashef and newcomer Lara Ly Melic Skovgaard.

All six episodes of The Asset are available to stream now on Netflix.
