Bihar News: Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s government has made a big announcement regarding women empowerment in Bihar. Rs 10,000 given to women under the Chief Minister Mahila Rozgar Yojana will not have to be returned. The government has made it clear that this is not a loan, but financial assistance. According to the data of the state government, so far more than 1 crore 50 lakh women have benefited from this ambitious scheme, due to which they are becoming self-reliant.

This scheme is one of the most ambitious schemes of Nitish government. Its main objective is to strengthen the economic status of women and motivate them for self-employment. Under this initiative, an amount of Rs 10,000 is being sent directly into their bank accounts (DBT) to eligible women in the first phase. The government aims to give this amount to the remaining eligible women by December 2025.

Who is eligible and what are the conditions?

A woman from every family in the state can take advantage of this scheme. The age of the applicant should be between 18 to 60 years. Also, the applicant herself or her husband should not be in the category of income tax payer nor in any government service (regular or contractual). Women who are associated with Jeevika Self Help Group are eligible for this. Women who are not already associated with Jeevika group will be given the benefit of this scheme by first joining the group.

How to apply and what will you get next?

Women from rural areas can apply in the special meeting of their Village Organization (VO). Women associated with the group in urban areas will apply in the special meeting of their area level organization (ALF) or municipal body. Women who do not belong to the (Urban) group can apply online through the web portal available at www.brips.in. With this money, women can start any business like grocery shop, beauty parlor, tailoring or poultry farming. They will also get free training.

The government has clarified that this amount of Rs 10,000 is not a loan. The talk of loan repayment being spread on social media is absolutely wrong. This amount is completely subsidized by the state government and is never to be refunded at any stage. This scheme was started on August 29, 2025. Women whose enterprises do well will also be provided additional financial assistance of up to Rs 2 lakh after assessment.
