Inspiring Story of Amol Muzumdar: In the film Chak De India, released in 2007, Shahrukh Khan played the role of Kabir Khan, the coach of the women’s hockey team, who completely transforms his team and makes it a champion. Now Indian women’s cricket team head coach Amol Majumdar has done a similar feat in real life. She has brought about revolutionary changes in the team’s thinking, strategy and confidence and has led India to the Women’s ODI World Cup title for the first time.

Unfulfilled dream fulfilled at the age of 50

Amol Majumdar’s cricket career was full of extraordinary talent, but luck was always one step ahead of him. When Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli made a record partnership of 664 runs in the school tournament, Amol wore pads and kept waiting for his batting.

In the year 1994, he made his debut for Mumbai in Ranji Trophy and caught everyone’s attention with his brilliant performance. He scored more than 11,000 runs in domestic cricket while batting at an average of over 50. Despite this, he never got a chance to play in the Indian team.

After waiting till 2012, he said goodbye to cricket. But who would have thought that at the age of 50, Majumdar would fulfill his dream of making India world champion. At the age of 50 years and 357 days, he achieved what millions of players dream of – Team India winning the World Cup.

Coaching career changed the direction of destiny

After his retirement from cricket, Amol Majumdar decided to pass on his experience to the new generation. He worked as a batting coach with India Under-19 and Under-23 teams. In 2013, he was made the batting consultant of the Netherlands cricket team. From 2018 to 2020, he was associated with the Rajasthan Royals team. During this time, he also played the role of interim batting coach with the South Africa national team.

Majumdar became the architect of change in women’s team

In the year 2023, BCCI appointed Amol Majumdar as the head coach of the Indian women’s cricket team. With the beginning of his tenure, a big change was seen in both the mentality and strategy of the team. He focused on the players’ confidence, fitness and collective play. The result of two years of hard work and visionary planning was that India created history by winning the Women’s ODI World Cup title in 2025.
