Nalbari, Nov 5: The Sri Sri Harimandir temple in Nalbari is bustling with energy, colors, and devotion as it hosts the 92nd Raas Mahotsav, one of Assam's most awaited religious events, which commenced on Wednesday.
This year's festivities pay homage to the beloved cultural figure Zubeen Garg, featuring a striking 52-foot guitar and hat installation, alongside a statue dedicated to him.
Festival attendees will have the chance to honor the late artist, whose legacy continues to resonate with his admirers.
Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs, Jayanta Mallabaruah, announced, “In tribute to Zubeen Garg, 10,000 individuals will perform 20 of his songs tomorrow.”
He also mentioned that to celebrate the birth centenary of Bharat Ratna Dr. Bhupen Hazarika, 100 of his songs will be performed over the course of five days without any repeats.

The celebrations kicked off on Wednesday morning with the raising of 92 religious flags, marking the beginning of the 13-day festival, which will run until November 17.
The main entrance to the Raas venue will be inaugurated by Dr. Babul Das, the Burha Satradhikar of Barpeta Satra, with several ministers, MLAs, and dignitaries expected to grace the opening ceremony.
While the Nalbari Raas Mahotsav typically focuses on clay idols, this year's event will also include live Raas performances and a variety of cultural displays.
“This evening, the Satradhikar of Barpeta will inaugurate the Raas, and live Raas performances are scheduled for November 9 and 10. Starting tomorrow, the Putola Naas Raas (puppet Raas) will also be featured,” stated the Nalbari MLA.
Enhancing the festive atmosphere, a vibrant cultural procession will commence from the Nalbari Gordon Higher Secondary School field, inviting devotees and visitors to the Harimandir.
Additionally, five prominent mobile theatre troupes will present plays as part of a competition, further enriching the annual celebration's grandeur and vibrancy.
