Railway Lower Berth Rules: Everyone likes to sit on the lower berth while traveling in a train. In such a situation, now senior citizens are not able to get lower berth many times, but under these new rules of Railways, now the elderly and 45+ can get lower berth as per preference.

Senior Citizen Lower Berth Rules: Most of the middle class people in India travel by train, and for long journeys people often book tickets in sleeper, third or second AC, so that the journey can be completed by sitting and sleeping comfortably. While booking tickets, passengers often choose lower berth because it does not require climbing up again and again and is also comfortable, especially for women and senior citizens. In such a situation, Railways has made a big change, in which after changing the rules of Tatkal ticket booking and reservation, now there has been a big change regarding train seats as well.

Railways changed rules regarding lower berth

Railways has reduced the advance reservation period from 120 days to 60 days. After the change in rules, people's expectations regarding lower berth were not fulfilled, people are not able to get lower berth even after clicking the option of lower berth preference while booking the ticket, in view of this problem of the people, Railways has made a big change, especially for the elderly.

According to this rule of Railways, lower berths are given to women above 45 years of age, pregnant women, elderly citizens, but it depends on the availability of seats. You will get the berth of your choice only if there is a seat available in the train, otherwise you have to make do with whatever seat is available. But Railways has made a big change on this, in which it has brought the option of 'Book only if lower berth is available' during booking. While booking tickets from IRCTC, the option of Book Only if Lower Berth available is given. Under which your ticket will be booked only if lower berth is available in the train.
