India's Ambassador to the United States, Vinay Mohan Kwatra, held a virtual meeting with Intel CEO Lip Boo Tan on Saturday. The two discussed plans related to semiconductor manufacturing and artificial intelligence (AI) in India in detail.

In his X post, Kwatra wrote, "It was a pleasure to speak with Intel CEO Lip Boo Tan. We discussed the company's plans to develop the semiconductor and AI industries in the country, under the Indian government's 'India Semiconductor Mission' and 'IndiaAI' initiatives."

This conversation comes at a time when the Indian government is taking major steps to promote investment in both sectors. India aims to make the country a global hub for technology manufacturing and AI innovation.

Toward this end, India is hosting a major conference in February next year. The India-AI Impact Summit 2026 will be held in New Delhi from February 19th to 20th. This will be the first time an artificial intelligence summit of this scale will be held in the Global South. Experts are considering this move by India as a big step towards the digital and technology leadership capabilities of the country.
