Emmerdale fans have been celebrating with April Windsor star Amelia Flanagan after she shared some brilliant news away from the ITV soap.

Amelia rose to prominence when she joined the programme in 2014 aged just six, taking on the role of April, the daughter of Marlon Dingle (Mark Charnock) and Donna Windsor (Verity Rushworth).

Since then, she has become embroiled in numerous major storylines. From her mum's heartbreaking death to finding herself homeless on the streets, April's journey in the Dales has been filled with drama.

Currently, the character has been caught up in a harrowing storyline involving crime, child exploitation and drugs over recent months.

But away from the screen, actress Amelia has recently marked a significant personal achievement. The joint Flanagan family Instagram account announced that Amelia had successfully passed her driving test, reports the Daily Star.

A photo showed Amelia proudly displaying her driving certificate, with the accompanying message stating: "What a week! @ameliaflanagan08 you're smashing it in every bit of life and we're so proud of you. Safe driving gorgeous girl."

Supporters quickly flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages. One fan wrote: "Well done safe driving." Another added: "Congratulations Amelia on passing your driving test x Such a wonderful and beautiful actress."

Others shared similar sentiments, with one commenting: "A massive well done Amelia." A fourth declared: "Aww well done sweetheart such a star in all that you do congratulations and happy safe driving."

Amelia isn't the only star of the small screen in her family. She shares the limelight with her younger twin siblings, Isabella and William, who portray Hope Stape and Joseph Brown respectively on rival soap Coronation Street.

Earlier this year, at the British Soap Awards, Amelia clinched the award for Best Young Performer, marking Emmerdale's second win of the night, despite EastEnders dominating the awards.

Her brother Will was also in the running, and was visibly moved by his sister's victory during her acceptance speech.

Upon hearing Amelia's name announced as the winner, William sprang from his seat, clapping and cheering enthusiastically for his elder sister. Viewers of the Soap Awards at home quickly took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts on the touching moment.

One viewer commented: "Aww Amelia Flanagan little Brothers reaction when she got the award yes I am crying ! ! so cute ! #Britishsoapawards." Another chimed in: "The way her brother stood up to applaud her, he's so proud. #britishsoapawards."

Emmerdale airs weeknights on ITV1 and ITVX at 7.30pm
