Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway: A major change has been made in the route of the Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway project. Now this expressway will go directly from Gorakhpur to Siliguri (West Bengal) via Kushinagar. Deoria district has been completely excluded in the new alignment. After this change, there will be a big impact on both the direction and profits of the project.
old offer status
As per the earlier plan, this expressway was to start from Jagdishpur, the connecting point of Ring Road in Gorakhpur, pass through 23 villages of Deoria district and enter Gopalganj district of Bihar via Tamkuhiraj tehsil of Kushinagar. This route had already been approved and preparations for land acquisition had also started.
Length and route of the new alignment
According to the new proposed alignment, the length of the expressway from Gorakhpur to Kushinagar will be approximately 86.5 kilometers. This new route is designed for more direct and faster travel, with fewer turns and obstructions for vehicles. This is expected to significantly reduce travel time.
loss to deoria
After the change in route, 23 villages of Deoria district have been left out of this project. These include villages like Belwa Pandey, Banshiya, Chainpur, Bhiswa, Mahuawa Bajratar, Balkuan, Madapa, Shahjahanpur and Deshi Deoria. This is likely to impact development and employment opportunities in these areas.
Big benefit to Kushinagar
Kushinagar district will get a big benefit from this change. The district is an important center of Buddhist tourism, attracting thousands of foreign tourists every year. The passage of the expressway will boost tourism, hotel and business activities here, which will open new avenues of employment and economic development.
Project Features
Gorakhpur-Siliguri Expressway will be about 550 km long six-lane highway. Its specialty is that there will be no major turns in it, due to which the speed of the vehicles will remain constant. The estimated cost of this project is approximately 37,500 Is crore rupees. Its construction will give a new impetus to industrial and commercial activities among the states of Eastern India.
According to NHAI officials, the preliminary survey of Deoria route was completed in the year 2022, but due to technical and geographical reasons the route had to be changed. Now the new route will go from Gorakhpur to Siliguri via Kushinagar.
Project Director Lalit Pratap Pal said that the new alignment is more practical, safe and beneficial from cost point of view. This will not only make the journey easier but will also facilitate timely completion of the project.
