When discussing reliable cars that you can buy and own long term, Japanese brands such as Toyota, Lexus and Honda have earned a reputation worldwide.
The South Korean brands like Hyundai and Kia also top the charts, however, one barely thinks of a German sports car company to make the cut. Which would be wrong because the latest Consumer Reports surveys show that Porsche does well in reliability rankings despite having vehicles that are expensive to maintain and repair. In the recent survey, four different Porsche models earned the 'Recommended' tag after going through the Consumer Reports testing procedure. These cars included the 2025 Porsche Macan SUV, Cayenne SUV, the 718 Boxster roadster and the Taycan EV. The list may not include iconic model lines like the 911 but the more recent and practical models seem to have fared well. Among the four Porsches, the survey predicts the best reliability from the petrol-powered Macan SUV. However, out of the 22 compact SUVs, the Macan was ranked 5th in the survey. Moving to the mid-sized SUV category, the Cayenne again ranked 7th out of 13 models tested for reliability. Similarly, the 718 Boxster, 718 Cayman and the Taycan EV scored average in terms of reliability in their respective segments. The 718 Boxster scored 5th rank against cars like Mazda MX-5, BMW Z4 and came out ahead of the Nizzan Z. The Taycan EV beat other electrics such as Tesla Model 3, Mercedes-Benz EQE and EQS and Lucid Air in reliability scores. While these Porsche cars may have scored fairly in the reliability survey, the maintenance survey shed light on how they are expensive to maintain and repair. In another survey report, it was revealed that the top ten most reliable brands include six Japanese brands, two South Korean brands, two German car brands and zero American carmakers. In more Porsche news, the brand is all set to make the global debut of the next-generation Cayenne Electric SUV on November 19, 2025. It is based on Porsche's latest EV platform and will also come equipped with dual-motor propulsion, all-wheel drive and advanced fast charging provisions. Would the Cayenne EV beats the Taycan's reliability score is something we will have to wait and watch.
