Method to get Lower Berth: In Indian Railways, lower berths are reserved for senior citizens in every coach of the train. If you are also a senior citizen and book a ticket in Railways but still you get a middle or upper berth. But, if you want a lower berth then some things have to be kept in mind.

Let us tell you that, according to the Railway Ministry, there is a joint quota of lower berths in trains for senior citizens (men above 60 years and women above 58 years) and women above 45 years of age. This quota varies from sleeper class to AC class. Under this, senior citizens and women are given lower berths on ticket booking.

How to get lower berth?

To get a lower berth, while booking the ticket, it is necessary to choose the option of senior citizen in the ticket, only then you can get the benefit of this quota. Let us tell you that in one ticket only one to two senior citizens get the benefit of quota and only one to two citizens are given lower berth. In such a situation, if you book more than two senior citizens in a single ticket, you will not get the benefit and you may get a middle or upper berth.

Women also have quota

There is a joint quota for senior citizens and women for every train in Railways, that is, along with senior citizens, lower berths in the quota are also reserved for pregnant women and elderly women.

Let us tell you that the benefit of senior citizen quota will be available only when the berth in the train is vacant. That is, if you book a ticket in a train at the last moment, then there is a possibility that the lower berth may be full and you may not be able to avail the benefit of lower berth. Whereas if the berth is vacant then you can get a lower berth.

Joint quota of women and senior citizens

Railways has fixed some lower berth seat quota for combined quota in each class. According to this, there is a quota of 6 to 7 lower berths per coach in sleeper class, 4 to 5 lower berths per coach in third AC, 3 to 4 lower berths per coach in second AC. Under this, berth is available.
