What to do on Margashirsha Amavasya?

Holy Bath: Taking bath in a holy river on this day gives the same virtuous results as 'Ashwamedha Yagya'. If bathing in the river is not possible, then take bath at home by mixing Ganga water in the bathing water.

Arghya to the Sun: After bathing, offer water to Sun God and chant the mantra 'Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevay'.

Offering to ancestors: Perform Tarpan, Pind Daan and Shraddha rituals for the peace of the ancestors' souls. This eliminates Pitra Dosh.
