According to religious beliefs, the Brahma Muhurta is considered the most auspicious time for bathing on the day of Margashirsha Amavasya. Taking a dip in a holy river during the Brahma Muhurta on this day brings special merit. Therefore, bathing in a holy river during the Brahma Muhurta on this day is recommended. After bathing, one should perform charitable acts.

According to astrology, one should not cut hair or nails on the new moon day, even by mistake. Doing so could anger one's ancestors and cause an ancestral curse.
