As one of the bendiest roads in Britain, this winding route has become a popular spot for people to visit. It's not for everyone, but this road is known for its hairpin bends.

So-called Zig Zag Hill, on the B3081 in Dorset, forces drivers to do an almost 180-degree turn on a road.

The road is nestled in the English countryside and its set amongst stunning scenery.

Country Living says the area is famous for its elevation too - with the likes of Gold Hill, in Shaftesbury, best-known for its appearance in the Hovis bread advert.

The road has been named as the most hair-raising route for motorists in a survey by LeaseCar.uk due to its twists and turns.

In 2019, maintenance work was carried out, due to severe wear and tear on the route.

The road, which is located to the west of Salisbury on the border with Wiltshire, is very steep hitting a maximum gradient of 13% on some of its ramps.

It starts in the village of Cann Common and quickly climbs upwards via narrow bends and the much-feared hairpin bends.

The road is also very scenic with autumn leaves and green mounds of grass surrounding drivers.

Driving Zig Zag Hill at night is particularly daunting. The sharpness of the turns means headlights often point into the trees rather than illuminating the road ahead, forcing drivers to peer through side windows into the darkness.

So, especially for those unfamiliar with the road, tackling it in the dark is ill-advised.

A spokesman for LeaseCar.uk said: "We want motorists heading out on the road this summer to be well prepared and know what sort of roads they may be coming up against.

"These twisty roads are enough to incite fear in even the most experienced of drivers.

"Their sheer drops, sharp bends and uneven terrain should definitely be avoided where possible."
