Netflix has just added a heart-wrenching film, Responsible Child, to its catalogue and it has already soared to the top of the UK film chart.

The film tells the story of 12 year old Ray (portrayed by Billy Barratt), who stands trial accused of murdering his mother's boyfriend.

This2019 film is based on the real-life 2014 case of Jerome Ellis and his older brother Joshua, who were charged with stabbing their mother's partner to death in a brutal knife attack.

Neil Tulley was stabbed over 60 times while he lay on the sofa, with Jerome being only 14 years old at the time, and Joshua aged 23.

Both brothers denied murder but admitted to manslaughter at Guildford Crown Court.

While Joshua was found guilty of murder, Jerome was convicted of manslaughter due to loss of control.

Jerome was given a six-year detention sentence, whereas Joshua received a minimum of 14 years behind bars.

Given that the incident occurred 11 years ago, it suggests that Jerome is now a free man, believed to be living under a new identity.

Meanwhile, his brother Joshua continues to serve his sentence.

During the trial, the court heard that Mr Tulley had threatened to kill Joshua a year prior.

Despite being arrested and charged with making threats to kill, he was subsequently acquitted.

The brothers were known to have come from a complex and dysfunctional background.

Joshua told police that he and his brother had been terrified of what Mr Tulley was capable of and could no longer tolerate the abuse.

The judge labelled it a "tragic case", stating that Jerome had been neglected and was living in an abusive environment.
