Actor Anirban Chakrabarti , who brings the beloved detective Eken Babu to life, is all set to introduce the quirky sleuth to a wider audience with the Hindi debut of the franchise. While fans admire Eken Babu’s razor-sharp logic and almost accidental brilliance, Anirban shares that there’s a surprisingly simple secret powering the detective’s mind: food. “Eken Babu needs constant fuel. If he skips a snack, the case is sure to stall,” he laughs.
Unlike the stylish, gadget-dependent detectives audiences usually see, Eken Babu thrives on something far humbler, samosas. Anirban explains that the detective’s mind works at a rapid pace, and those quick, delicious bites act like tiny power boosters. A samosa break isn’t indulgence; it’s an essential reset that helps Eken pause his whirlwind of thoughts and return with renewed clarity.
If there’s one thing Eken Babu relies on more than clues, it’s tea. “He must have at least three cups of strong, perfectly brewed tea during a long investigation,” says Anirban. These calm, contemplative moments often become the turning point in a case. As the world buzzes around him, the detective uses these tea breaks to silently piece together scattered fragments of evidence, turning chaos into clarity.
When chasing criminals, Eken Babu turns to classic Bengali comfort dishes. These familiar flavours anchor him emotionally, offering a sense of stability when the plot becomes tangled. His meals are not just about hunger; they keep him rooted, balanced and ready to confront the next twist with confidence.
Reflecting on his character’s quirks, Anirban says, “Eken Babu is highly focused but also gets distracted very easily. For his brain to function at that speed, he needs constant supply of food. Snacking on samosas and tea isn’t a habit — it’s a tool that helps him pause, reflect and uncover the genius solution hiding in plain sight.”
As the detective steps into his Hindi avatar, viewers won’t just follow his crime-solving brilliance, they’ll witness a character whose sharpest deductions often arrive between a sip of tea and a bite of samosa.
