New Delhi: X (Twitter) has started showing more profile information to help users understand who they are interacting with on the platform, as automated accounts continue to become harder to identify. The update arrives at a time when social media conversations are crowded with AI generated posts, making it tougher for regular users to judge authenticity. The platform now reveals certain background details about an account, including its creation date, the number of username changes and its location.

Users noticed this change earlier today, and we also tried it on our own timelines. The new popup window does not appear directly on the main profile page, which makes the feature easy to miss unless you tap around a bit. But once accessed, it gives a quick snapshot of where the account is based and which app store it belongs to, something many users have been curious about.

How to check the location of X(Twitter) accounts?

X said the feature aims to give people a better sense of who they are speaking to online, adding that the rollout is meant to counter the rise of human like AI bots. According to the company, X now displays account creation dates, location details, username change history and how the account uses the service. These details appear in a compact popup.

Extra information displayed on X(twitter)

Checking an account’s location takes a few simple steps:

  • Open the profile of the X account you want to check
  • Tap on the joining date shown below the username
  • A popup will appear with more information including the account’s location and app store region

In India, the window shows entries like India App Store for many accounts. Some profiles also show how many times the username has been changed, which can be helpful in spotting accounts that frequently rebrand.

What we noticed while testing the feature

During our testing, older accounts displayed more detailed information, while some newer profiles showed only the basics. Tapping the date sometimes took a second to respond, but the window eventually opened. The location tag does not give city or pin code details. It simply shows the region the account is tied to. The feature is currently rolling and not all accounts are showing the location details. Further testing, showed that at the time of publishing the article, we could not see more information on any other X(Twitter) accounts, other than our own.

Location info shown on different accounts

As the company rolls out this feature gradually, more users are expected to see it over the coming days. The update is another attempt by X to give people more transparency at a time when verifying real users on social platforms has become harder.
