Chamoli: The much-awaited AstroWeek Season 3 has begun at Astro Village Benital, Uttarakhand’s first Astrovillage. This four-day astronomical festival, running from November 21 to 24, promises visitors a unique chance to witness the wonders of the night sky while learning about astronomy and photography.

The festival is being organized for the third consecutive year, making Benital a hub for astro-tourism. Located about 30 km from Karnaprayag, the village has been developed under the 13 Districts 13 Destination program of the Tourism Department. With an investment of Rs 5 crore, the site is being transformed into a special destination for skywatchers and tourists.

A festival of stars and learning

AstroWeek offers a wide range of activities. Visitors can enjoy sunrise shoots, landscape and nature photography, and Unistellar telescope demonstrations. There will also be sessions on Jupiter and deep sky observations, Moon photography, and even the fascinating Holy Grail astrophotography.

Workshops on advanced photography training, astronomical discussions, and star stories by bonfire will add to the charm of the evenings. The program will conclude on November 24 with Star Trails and Deep Sky Wrap-Up, giving participants a chance to capture breathtaking images of the night sky.

Aim of the festival

District Tourism Officer Arvind Gaur said the main aim of AstroWeek is to promote astronomy, tourism, and education. “We want people to experience the celestial beauty of Uttarakhand and learn more about the universe,” he explained.

The Tourism Department has made special arrangements for visitors. Homestays and tents are being prepared for accommodation, while facilities like bonfires and transportation are also being arranged. Registrations for the program have already been completed, showing strong interest from astronomy lovers and tourists.

Benital: Uttarakhand’s Astrovillage

Benital has earned the title of Uttarakhand’s first Astrovillage because of its clear skies and ideal location for stargazing. The village is quickly becoming a favorite destination for astro-tourism. The festival not only attracts astronomy enthusiasts but also supports local tourism and provides new opportunities for villagers.

A cosmic experience

AstroWeek Season 3 is expected to draw hundreds of visitors who will enjoy the rare chance to see the moon, planets, and stars up close through telescopes. With storytelling, workshops, and photography sessions, the festival blends science with culture, making it both educational and entertaining.

As the Himalayan nights grow colder, the warmth of bonfires and the sparkle of the stars will make AstroWeek Season 3 a truly unforgettable experience for everyone attending.
