PRT - Primary School Teachers (PRT)
TGT - Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT)
PGT - Post Graduate Teachers (PGT)

What is the difference between PRT, TGT, and PGT?

Primary School Teachers (PRT) - These teachers teach primary classes (grades 1 to 5), as the full form clearly indicates. Candidates must have a Graduate Diploma, D.El.Ed., and TET Paper 1. After qualifying the vacancy exam, a merit list is prepared.

TGT - Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) - These teachers teach students from grades 6 to 10. To become a Trained Graduate Teacher, one must have passed a B.Ed. and be TET qualified. They teach math, science, social studies, languages, and other specialised subjects.

PGT - Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) - These teachers teach students in grades 11 through 12. Candidates must have a postgraduate degree and a B.Ed. to become a TGT. The difference between a TGT and a PGT is that a TGT pursues a B.Ed. after graduation, while to become a PGT, a candidate must have a postgraduate degree either before or after applying for a B.Ed. course. Thus, with the same B.Ed. degree, graduate candidates are called TGTs and postgraduate candidates are called PGTs.
