Ganga Expressway: The Ganga Expressway connecting Meerut to Prayagraj has now reached almost ready stage. A total of 1498 large structures were built on this huge 594 kilometer long expressway, out of which 1497 are completely ready. Only about six percent work is left in the Unnao-Haldwani section, while most of the route including Meerut-Badayun is almost ready for plying of vehicles.
In the first sector, 322 big structures have been built in the 129 km long stretch from Meerut to Badaun, and all the work has been completed. According to UPEDA officials, the trial run of this section will be done in the first week of December. After this, after completing the final testing, the expressway is expected to be inaugurated in the second week of January 2026.
One specialty of this expressway is that five such places have been developed in it, where fighter planes can be landed in case of emergency. A 3.5 km long airstrip has also been prepared in Jalalabad area of Shahjahanpur and there are plans to develop three more airstrips in future.
Ganga Expressway will not only make the traffic faster and easier, but will also give a new impetus to the industrial development of districts like Meerut, Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Badaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj. Industrial corridors are being prepared on both sides of the expressway, which will increase investment and employment opportunities in these areas.
About 7453 hectares of land has been acquired for this project being built at a cost of Rs 36,230 crore. Later this expressway will be expanded till Haridwar. The maximum speed of vehicles on this six-lane route will be 120 km per hour, due to which the journey from Meerut to Prayagraj can be completed in just six hours.
The construction of the railway track portion of Simbhaoli has also been completely completed, due to which the way for the trial run has been cleared. Officials say that first the trial will be conducted at the departmental level in the presence of experts and after that the date of final trial and inauguration will be announced. According to ADM Sandeep Kumar, the department will send the report to the government for inauguration in December itself.
