In Kurla, Mumbai, 5 friends tried to burn their 21-year-old friend alive by pouring petrol on him on the pretext of his birthday. The victim suffered severe burns and is hospitalized. Police have registered a case against 5 accused.

Kurla: In the name of celebrating birthday, some youth tried to burn their own friend alive. This shocking incident happened in Kurla, Mumbai on Monday night. Five friends together tried to kill their 21-year-old friend by setting him on fire. Abdul Rehman Maqsood Alam Khan, a resident of Kurla, was badly burnt. This 21 year old boy is admitted in Bhabha Hospital, Kurla. Friends had called him on the pretext of cutting the birthday cake. As soon as the boy started cutting the cake, the friends started their cruelty. The incident happened around 8 pm. The friends first jokingly started throwing small stones at the 21-year-old boy who was cutting the cake. After this a friend poured petrol brought in a bottle on him.

The accused were enjoying watching their friend run away after their clothes caught fire

When the 21-year-old smelled petrol and asked what they were doing, the friends set him on fire. As soon as his clothes caught fire, he ran to save his life. The boy, surrounded by flames, reached a nearby building and extinguished the fire with the help of the security guard there. By then his friends had fled from the spot. Later, one of the same friends came back and took the exhausted boy, sitting in a nearby building, to the hospital. The victim, a 21-year-old boy, is a second year graduation student in Accounting and Finance. Police have registered a case against Ayaz Malik, Ashraf Malik, Qasim Chaudhary, Huzaifa Khan and Sharif Shaikh.

Police have registered a case of attempt to culpable homicide under section 110 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Ayaz had poured petrol on the boy, while a young man named Ashraf had set him on fire with a lighter. After the fire was extinguished, Huzaifa came back and took him to the hospital. The victim studies in Gurunanak Khalsa College, Mumbai. There are burn marks on his face, hair, chest, hands and right palm. The boy has told the police that while he was burning and running to save his life, his friends were having fun watching it.
