WPL 2026 Auction, Alyssa Healy: The mega auction for the fourth season of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) took place in New Delhi on 27 November, where all the 5 teams were seen busy strengthening their respective squads. The franchises spent a lot of money and bought a total of 67 players, which also includes 23 foreign players. However, some surprising decisions were also seen in the auction.

On one hand, UP Warriors used the Right to Match card and again included Deepti Sharma for Rs 3.2 crore. Whereas, Australia’s captain Alyssa Healy remained unsold. A big bid was expected on Healy, but no team showed interest in buying him. The fans were quite surprised to see this. At the same time, now the big reason behind Healy remaining unsold has come to light.

Why did Alyssa Healy remain unsold?

Coaches of different teams gave their reasons for not buying Alyssa Healy in the WPL mega auction. According to ESPN Cricinfo, UP Warriors head coach Abhishek Nair said that he too was surprised by Healy remaining unsold. But in WPL, only four foreign players can be allowed to play in the playing 11, so teams have less options. Most franchises want players who can do both batting and bowling.

At the same time, RCB’s assistant coach Anya Shrubsole also clearly said that their top order is already strong and Healy did not fit in with Richa Ghosh being in the top-5. While Delhi Capitals coach Jonathan Batty said that Healy was definitely in his list, but he considered it necessary to keep the squad more flexible.

Healy’s brilliant performance in WPL

Alyssa Healy has been a part of UP Warriors in WPL. So far, playing 17 matches, he has scored 428 runs at an average of 26.75 and strike rate of 130.48. During this period, he has also scored 3 half-centuries with his bat and his best score has been 96 not out. Hili could not play the last season of WPL due to injury. The 36 year old Australian captain has the power to destroy any bowling unit. She had entered the auction at a base price of Rs 50 lakh, but her non-purchase surprised everyone.

These legends also remained unsold in the auction

Apart from Alyssa Healy, some other big names also remained unsold in the WPL mega auction. England’s Heather Knight and Alice Capsey, Australia’s Alana King, Amanda-Jade Wellington, Darcy Brown and Sri Lankan captain Chamari Atapattu, all these star players did not find any buyers. On the other hand, Amelia Kerr became the most expensive foreign player of this auction. Mumbai Indians bought him for a hefty sum of Rs 3 crore.
