Yahoo Mail and AOL Mail users across the US and UK are facing widespread login issues on Monday, after a sudden outage disrupted access to both email services.

According to Downdetector, reports of problems surged sharply around 10:50am ET (3:50pm GMT)with more than 1,000 outage reports recorded in the US alone. Users say they are unable to log in, access inboxes, or load messages.

Yahoo and AOL confirm outage

Both Yahoo and AOL acknowledged the issue on X, stating that their teams are “actively investigating” the disruption and working toward a fix. Neither platform has yet provided a timeline for resolution.

The outage affects both mobile and desktop users, with login authentication emerging as the most common failure point.

Who owns Yahoo and AOL right now?

Yahoo, owned by private equity firm Apollo Global Managementalso oversees AOL. However, AOL is currently in the process of being acquired by Bending Spoonsthe European tech company behind Evernote and Filmic Pro.

Users express frustration

Many long-time users took to social media to report being abruptly logged out of their accounts, while others said they could not access critical emails.

  • Chicago
  • London
  • Manchester

Yahoo and AOL have not disclosed the cause of the outage, though early indicators suggest a possible authentication or server- issue.
