A new bakery is planning to take over former stores once owned by huge chain Greggs, which is famed for its sausage rolls, pastries and reasonable prices. Family-run Bakery79 is planning to open up more sites across the UK this year.

They have already got stores up and down the UK, including Blackpool, Forfar, Wimborne and Ashington. The bakery sells hot fresh pastries, homemade-style bakes, classic sausage rolls and freshly brewed coffee, which is backed and brewed from scratch every morning. Bakery79 is built on nearly five decades of family heritage, dating back to 1979. The Tandon family's grandparents opened their first shop 46 years ago.

Now, the baker is under the leadership of Manoj and Hemant Tandon, becoming the third-generation. Through their Park Garage Group's large-scale transformation, the bakery is expanding across the UK.

They are eyeing up former Greggs stores across the nation, including the opening of their shop in Bearsted, Kent last month. This week, they are opening in the village of Mogador, Surrey with free coffee all day this Friday.

Manoj said: "Our family has always believed that good food should come with genuine warmth. What began with my grandparents in 1979 has grown into something much bigger across the UK, but the heart of it hasn't changed. Whether someone's grabbing a coffee on the school run or stopping in for a quick bite, it should feel personal. Opening our Mogador site - and giving away free coffee all day - felt like the perfect way to continue that tradition and introduce ourselves to the neighbourhood."

Bakery79 serve up breakfast, which includes bacon and sausage baps priced at £2.29, while baguettes are £3.79. Their main menu includes pepperoni, margherita and BBQ meat feat pizzas, which are all under £3.

The hot cabinet includes halloumi bites, chicken goujons and a southern fried chicken baguette. Coffees range from flat whites to lattes, mochas and americanos.
