Dehradun: Air travel in Uttarakhand is getting a major boost with the launch of three new helicopter services under the UDAN scheme. Operated by Heritage Aviation, the services will connect Dehradun, Tehri, Srinagar, and Gauchar, beginning Saturday, December 6.

The initiative aims to improve connectivity in the hill state, making travel easier for residents and tourists. The helicopter service will operate twice daily, with a six-seater capacity, ensuring faster and more convenient travel across difficult mountain terrain.

Flight schedule and fares

The first flight will depart from Dehradun’s Jolly Grant Airport at 10:15 am for New Tehri. The fare is Rs 2,000.

From Tehri, the helicopter will fly to Srinagar at 10:30 am, with a fare of Rs 1,000. At 10:45 am, the service will depart Srinagar for Gauchar, also at Rs 1,000.

Return flights will begin from Gauchar at 11 am, Srinagar at 11:15 am, and Tehri at 11:30 am, reaching Dehradun shortly after.

In the afternoon, another flight will depart Dehradun at 2:30 pm, reaching Gauchar at 3 pm via Tehri and Srinagar. A return flight from Gauchar will depart at 3 pm, arriving in Dehradun at 3:45 pm.

Benefits for people

Officials say the new services will save time for travelers, especially those heading to remote areas. The initiative is expected to boost tourism, improve emergency connectivity, and support local businesses. For residents, it provides a reliable alternative to long road journeys through winding mountain routes.

Expanding scope of heli-services

The scope of helicopter services in Uttarakhand is constantly expanding. With the addition of these routes, the state is strengthening its air network, ensuring better access to remote districts. Ticket bookings have already begun, and demand is expected to rise during the winter tourist season.

The launch of these services reflects the government’s focus on regional connectivity and infrastructure development. By linking Dehradun with Tehri, Srinagar, and Gauchar, the state is opening new opportunities for tourism, trade, and faster travel.
