Gardeners' World star Monty Don issued an important announcement on Instagram about the beloved BBC series, which he has fronted since 2003. In the fresh social media post, the 70-year-old was seated on a bench in his flourishing garden, where he was joined by his adorable dogs, Patti and Ned. The update about the long-running horticultural programme arrived just weeks after viewers were moved to tears as the presenter bid farewell to the show and its fellow gardening enthusiasts.

In the caption, Monty penned: "Don't forget, we've got another helping of horticultural stories heading your way this evening and look who's going to put in an appearance. Yes, Patti! Join us at the LATER time of 9pm on BBC Two. Our treat for your Friday night in." Although his final day of filming at Longmeadow aired on Friday, November 21, Gardeners' World returned with four winter specials to encourage fans to still get out into their gardens during the colder months.

Last Friday's episode saw Gardeners' World contributor Frances Tophill tackle veg beds, tame a Japanese wineberry and take holly cuttings, and have a go at making some damson gin.

The second winter special, which will air tonight (December 5), will see Adam Frost, Ashley Edwards and Joe Swift embrace the colour, scent and form of a winter garden.

Fans took to the comments with anticipation for the episode and elation after spotting Monty's dogs in the photo.

One penned: "Looking forward to some gardening inspiration (and lovely doggos) to brighten the day."

"Super. Looking forward to the only programme I watch all year and thrilled Patti will be making an appearance as we haven't seen her lately," said a second.

Another added: "Wonderful, and thank you, GW, for the Winter Garden specials. Such a treat."

"Such a lovely photograph of the delightful trio, we love you all, roll on 9pm and Spring for your return," echoed a fourth.

During the final Gardeners' World episode, Monty told viewers: "Although the gardening year at Longmeadow is gently coming to a close in the weeks ahead, we've got four special programmes for you, celebrating getting out in the garden in winter and all the joys of the garden across the seasons.

"That's it for today, and looking back over the year, I have to say it has been a really unusual year, at times quite tricky and other times pure delight ... but that's it for today, and I look forward to seeing you back here next spring for a new season of gardening."
