Rahul Bose accused of faking domicile certificate: Case explained

Actor and former rugby player Rahul Bose is facing legal trouble in Himachal Pradesh.

The controversy stems from allegations that he acquired a state domicile certificate under dubious circumstances to qualify for the national president role of the Rugby Federation.

The matter has now reached the Himachal Pradesh High Court, with the next hearing scheduled for December 18, reported India Today.

Notably, Bose has played for the national rugby team for 11 years.

The controversy dates back to 2023 when Bose allegedly promised the royal family of Shimla to establish and secure recognition for a state-level rugby association. However, that recognition is still pending.

Divya Kumari, a member of the royal family of the Jubbal princely state in Shimla, claims their existing association is being overlooked while a new one is being formed.

Allegations of fraudulent domicile certificate acquisition
Legal dispute

Kumari alleges that Bose used the royal family's goodwill for personal gain within the Rugby Federation and fraudulently acquired a Himachal Pradesh domicile certificate.

She has raised questions about the legitimacy of this certificate, emphasizing that Bose needed it "to obtain two votes from Himachal Pradesh in the national selection process."

The case will be taken up next by the Himachal Pradesh High Court.

The allegations further state that Bose was born in Kolkata and has an Aadhaar card, passport, and domicile certificate from Maharashtra, where he has built his career.

Kumari questions how one person can have domicile certificates from two different states.

She also alleged attempts to suppress the controversy, stating stakeholders deserve transparency about the association's fate and the authenticity of its leadership.
