RAC ticket can be confirmed

Crores of passengers travel by Indian Railways every day, and some of these people get RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) tickets. Getting a RAC ticket simply means that you have been allowed to travel in the train, but you have not got the full berth.

You will have to share your seat with another passenger, that is, two people travel sitting on one berth. There is always a dilemma in the minds of passengers regarding RAC whether it stamp Can they get confirmed even after the journey starts, or will they have to spend the entire journey sitting on a half seat?

How does RAC seat change after the journey starts?

RAC status only means that you have got the right to board the train and not the entire berth. But, if your RAC number is low, your chances of getting a full berth are very high. The process of getting your seat confirmed is in the hands of TTE (Train Ticket Examiner) after the commencement of the journey.

Suppose you have booked a journey from Delhi to Mau. You got RAC 25 at the time of booking, but by the time the chart was prepared it remained RAC 2. Now you are traveling in the train with this ticket. After the train starts running, the first thing TTE checks is how many confirmed passengers have canceled their journey, or have not boarded the train (called 'no-shows'). Apart from this, if a confirmed passenger gets down at any intermediate station, his seat also becomes vacant.

Who gets the vacant full berth first?

Railway As per the rules of RAC, TTE allots these vacant confirmed berths to the passengers having RAC number first. This means that the one with the smallest RAC number gets the full berth first.

For example, if two confirmed seats become vacant after the train starts, the TTE will first give the full berth to the passenger of RAC 1, and then to the passenger of RAC 2. Once this happens, your RAC ticket turns into a confirmed seat, and you do not have to share the seat with anyone.
