The Election Commission has extended the last date for submission of claims and objections under the Special Voter List Revision Drive (SIR) 2026 in six states and union territories. The Commission took this decision keeping in mind the number of applications received in different states and technical and administrative reasons.
Deadline extended till December 19 in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat
The last date for submission of SIR form in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat was fixed as 14 December 2025. The Commission has now increased it to 19 December 2025. This has given stakeholders from both the states five additional days to prepare and submit the necessary documents.
New last date in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andaman-Nicobar is 23 December.
The last date for filing claims and objections for Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Andaman and Nicobar Islands has been extended from 18 December 2025 to 23 December 2025.
Deadline extended till December 31 in Uttar Pradesh
In Uttar Pradesh, the last date of SIR has been extended from 26 December 2025 to 31 December 2025. The Election Commission has appealed to the voters of all these states to take advantage of the extended deadline and complete the necessary process quickly.
UP had asked for additional time
Chief Electoral Officer of Uttar Pradesh Navdeep Rinwa said that an additional time of two weeks was sought from the Commission to systematically complete the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in the state and to make the voter list more accurate. Its purpose is to re-verify deceased, transferred and absent voters.

According to the Chief Electoral Officer, the Election Commission of India has again revised the ongoing revision schedule based on the eligibility date January 1, 2026, with an extension of 15 days.
