Malayalam actor and filmmaker Srinivasan passed away in Kochi at the age of 69. He had worked in more than 225 films. He was a National Award winning writer, director and actor.

Veteran Malayalam cinema actor Srinivasan passed away in Kochi at the age of 69. He was ill for a long time and was being treated at home. Then when his health deteriorated, he was admitted to a hospital in Thrippunithura, where he died. Due to his sudden demise, there has been a wave of mourning in the entire industry.

Who was Srinivasan?

Srinivasan was born on 6 April 1956 in Pattiyam village near Thalassery in Kannur district of Kerala. He grew up in an ordinary family. His father was a school teacher and mother was a housewife. He had two brothers and a sister. He did his early studies in Kuthuparamba and Kadirur. After this he obtained his graduation degree in Economics from PRNSS College, Mattanur. In the year 1977, he studied cinema from the Film and Television Institute of Tamil Nadu, Chennai and then entered the industry.

Srinivasan had worked in more than 225 films

Along with being an actor, Srinivasan was also a writer, director and producer. In a career spanning nearly fifty years, Srinivasan worked in more than 225 films. As a screenwriter, Sreenivasan has been behind many hit films in Malayalam cinema. These include films like 'Odaruthamava Aalariyam', 'Sandesham', 'Nadodikkattu' and 'Nyan Prakashan'. As a director, his films, especially 'Vadakkunokkiyantram' and 'Chintavishtaya Shyamala', were highly appreciated for their sensitive stories and detailed depiction of middle-class life. Srinivasan was a National Award winner. Srinivasan is survived by his wife Vimala and his sons Vineeth and Dhyan Srinivasan, both of whom are well-known actors and filmmakers.
