Christmas is finally upon us, arriving in just a matter of days. We're all buzzing for the festivities, and it wouldn't be Christmas without a packed lineup of brilliant TV to enjoy.

Naturally, Elf, The Holiday and Love Actually are essential viewing during the festive period, but hang on, let's not overlook Home Alone either.

Whether it features on your annual list or you're watching Home Alone for the first time, it remains a timeless favourite throughout the merry season.

The 1990 Christmas comedy, helmed by Christopher Columbus, follows eight-year-old Kevin McCallister, portrayed by Macaulay Culkin, who gets accidentally abandoned while his family departs for a French getaway.

Initially, Kevin relishes the freedom as he savours having the house entirely to himself.

However, when a duo of burglars, dubbed the 'Wet Bandits', Harry and Marv attempt to break in, the youngster must rise to the occasion and protect his home.

Now one TV critic, recognised as @lifeofdevint to his 1.1million TikTok followers, couldn't resist highlighting a crucial detail in the legendary van sequence.

In a clip, he revealed: "Did anyone else notice in the movie Home Alone the famous van scene right here was actually filmed backwards? In the scene when Kevin walks past the driveway, Harry and Marv are driving down, they stop just in time avoiding hitting Kevin."

Explaining the scene, he added: "This was actually achieved by having Macaulay Culkin who played Kevin walk backwards as the van drove in reverse. The van was going up the driveway and a key indication this was shot backwards is that you can actually see the smoke on the right going towards the van rather than away from it."

Pointing to the scene, the reviewer continued: "Here's another look of the smoke going into the van as a key indication because obviously the smoke would be going outside of the van. So let me know in the comments if you noticed this because most people never notice this."

He also revealed a scene which was cut from the film where Kevin ventures downstairs to the basement and encounters the menacing furnace.

"In this scene right here, Christopher Columbus, director of the movie, envisioned a scene where the furnace got up and chased Kevin up the stairs," he added.

"But this would have cost over $1million and they thought this would have been a little bit scary to kids as well as cost so much money that it wasn't worth it so they trimmed it down to show the furnace groaning Kevin's name."

Following the revelation of the hidden detail in the van scene, numerous viewers were stunned by the fascinating revelation.

One commented: "I've watched that movie so many times I never noticed that." Another added: "No I never did."
