Venezuela Religious Demographics: Recently, the news of increasing tension between America and Venezuela and President Nicolas Maduro has attracted the attention of the whole world. The South American country Venezuela is known for its natural beauty and oil reserves, but do you know what the religious structure is like there, and how many Hindus live there?
The number of Hindu community in Venezuela is very small. According to official figures and international reports, the population of Hindus in the entire country is limited to a few hundreds or at most a few thousand. Due to the small number of Hindus here, there are very few temples and big religious places. The presence of Hinduism is seen mainly through the Sindhi community living in the capital Caracas and those associated with ISKCON. The main center in Caracas is the Templo Hare Krishna, also known locally as the Quinta Hare Krishna. ISKCON has played an important role in propagating Hinduism in Venezuela. Many local people here are devotees of Lord Krishna and organize bhajan-kirtan in their homes.
The number of devotees of Sathya Sai Baba in Venezuela is very high and this country is considered one of the largest centers of this spiritual movement in Latin America. The Sathya Sai organization in Venezuela has been active since 1974, when the first center was opened in Caracas. During Maduro's tenure, this organization has received special protection, due to which it is able to work independently compared to other foreign non-governmental organizations.
Venezuela is a Christian majority country. Most of the population here believes in Christianity. According to statistics, about 71% to 80% of the people are Roman Catholic. The Catholic Church has had a deep influence here since the Spanish colonial period. And about 17% people are Protestants. Their numbers have increased rapidly in recent years. The remaining 8% to 10% people either do not follow any religion or are part of other small religious groups.
