The M2 motorway has been closed off in both directions along a stretch of the road after a horror crash between a car and motorbike on January 4. The busy motorway has been closed between Junction 5, Sittingbourne and Junction 4, Rochester. Emergency services rushed to the scene in Kent at around 6.30am, with the motorway soon being closed in the westbound direction as crews worked in the area.

An hour later, officers at Kent Police advised that the eastbound carriageway also be shut "due to the nature of the incident". This carriageway has since reopened. In a statement, police said one person, a motorcyclist, had sadly died. It read: "Officers attended alongside paramedics who treated the motorcyclist for serious injuries. He was declared deceased at the scene." National Highways have put a diversion route in place, with road users advised to follow the solid square symbol westbound and the solid cricle eastbound.
