New Delhi: Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X is now officially the fastest production car in America. The automaker tested their supercar back in October, where it managed to cover a quarter mile in just 8.675 seconds running at 256 kph. During the same run, the ZR1X went from 0-100 kph in just 1.68 seconds.

According to Chevrolet, the Corvette hit the 100 kph milestone in just 100 feet while making 1.75G of acceleration force. 

The Corvette ZR1X pairs with a twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre LT7 V8 engine with an electric motor on the front axle, producing a total of 1,250 bhp with power going to all four wheels. Chevrolet completed the run in the car’s standard aero configuration and tune with the standard Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres equipped. 

The sub-9.0 run wasn’t a one-time thing, and Chevy claims that the Corvette ZR1X completed a series of “back-to-back quarter-mile runs all under 8.8 seconds”. General Motors President Mark Reuss noted that when they had decided to shift to mid-engine, they knew this type of performance was possible.

The ZR1X is the newest Corvette to return a sub-3.0-second 0-100 kph time. The Corvette Stingray with just the Z51 Performance package hit the milestone in just 2.9 seconds, with the ZR1 taking only 2.3 seconds to reach the point. This is something Chevrolet and American supercars in general have been good at doing.

At a much lower price, their cars can reach high speeds much faster than the bigger European cars. Of course, over a long course, something like a Bugatti Tourbillon might go past. However, the Tourbilon will take time to reach the 100 kph mark, going in 8.8 seconds.
