Anyone who subscribes to Virgin Media's broadband service could soon get a much-needed router boost. The telecoms company has just updated its blog and confirmed that a number of customers will soon be able to switch their routers to something much more powerful. The change will affect select users of older Virgin routers, including Hub 3 and Hub 4 models.

These devices don't offer the same experience as the newer Hub 5, which now features improved Wi-Fi 6 technology.

The update is being offered free with Virgin, saying those chosen to receive the boost will be emailed in the coming weeks and months.

"The Hub 5 is Virgin Media's latest router, built with WiFi 6 technology and seven internal antennas to help deliver stronger, more consistent coverage throughout your home," Virgin explained.

"Virgin Media is gradually rolling out Hub 5 upgrades to selected customers currently using older hubs, including Hub 3 or Hub 4. The upgrade is being offered at no extra cost, with thousands of customers set to benefit throughout 2026."

So how do you get one?

If you're eligible, Virgin Media will contact you directly - there's no need to do anything until you hear from them. You can also check your status by signing in to My Virgin Media on the firm's website.

Virgin states that those with the Hub 5, you'll benefit from improved WiFi coverage in more areas of the home.
