Riot Women is a highly anticipated British drama on the BBC about menopause and punk rock, similarly presenting a snapshot of reality for women of West Yorkshire as they navigate menopause together through their experiences with laughter and strong friendships. The second season of Riot Women is expected to continue this trend with exciting performances and emotional highs and lows, and some unexpected events, some between various generations, as well as the limitless empowerment that comes from creating music with such raw talent, following a great cliffhanger and a great finish to Season One in late 2025.

Riot Women Season 2 Release Date Speculations

The BBC has officially announced the renewal of Riot Women for a second season, after a successful run on BBC One and BBC iPlayer, and the official premiere date has not yet been confirmed (February 2026). At this time, there are also no official announcements made regarding when filming will start or when production will start. Based on the usual timeframes for BBC dramas, particularly those created and written entirely by Sally Wainwright, it is likely we will see a significant length of time from development through to production. While nothing is confirmed, there is speculation from industry insiders that Season Two may be available in late 2026 at the earliest, but 2027 has also been suggested based on available talent, scripts, and schedules, and these estimates cannot yet be substantiated by any official statement from the BBC.

Riot Women Season 2 Expected Cast

The BBC has not released a formal cast list for Season 2. However, renewal statements indicate the story will continue to follow the same group of women, strongly implying the return of the core ensemble.

Expected returning cast members include:

  • Joanna Scanlan as Beth Thornton
  • Rosalie Craig as Kitty Eckersley
  • Lorraine Ashbourne as Jess Burchill
  • Tamsin Greig as Holly Gaskell
  • Amelia Bullmore in her Season 1 role

Cast members have publicly referenced ongoing involvement in interviews, and creator Sally Wainwright has confirmed she will write Season 2 herselfmaintaining creative continuity.

No casting departures or major new additions have been announced at this stage.

Riot Women Season 2 Potential Plot

Season 2 currently has no official synopsis available to date.

According to the BBC, the new season will follow ‘what happens next to the Riot Women’ after the events of the Season 1 finale, where many of the main character’s personal issues, as well as the issues of the Riot Women as a band, went unresolved at the end of season one; thus creating a strong narrative impetus moving into season 2.

The story continues to focus on women both as band members and individually. This will include hanging on to the consequences created from the end of season 1. The consistent themes will remain at the forefront for future seasons (i.e., menopause, family obligations, growing older, autonomy, and female solidarity)

It is expected that there will be an increase in focus for the Riot Women as a Band and on the public presence of the band through concerts and increased recognition.

There will be a larger structure that reflects the continued evolution of the band – including major setbacks and emotional low points throughout season 2, as the cast has previously stated.

Wainwright’s previous work supports the notion that Season 2 will continue to present humor balanced with grounded emotional stakes, not transitioning to a heightened or melodramatic feel.
