Emergency services rushed to the scene of a high rise tower block fire this morning with residents evacuated. The blaze broke out at around 10.21am on Monday, February 23, in a flat on Newhall Street in Birmingham city centre.

Firefighters were sent to a fourth-floor property inside a 16-storey building after a fire was started in a kitchen accidentally. Two adults and a child managed to escape the burning flat before crews arrived and were later assessed by paramedics. Other residents were evacuated from the building as a precaution. Five fire crews reached the scene within four minutes and remained as the incident continued. A West Midlands Fire Service spokesperson said the fire had been extinguished shortly before 11am. Road closures and diversions were put in place however have now returned to normal.
