Vernon Kay has named the two BBC presenters he thinks could replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman after they both stepped down from Strictly Come Dancing last year. Vernon, who married Tess in 2003, broke his silence on who exactly could step into their shoes after names like Holly Willoughby, Zoe Ball and Alan Carr were all thrown into the ring.
He described the star as "probably the funniest presenter" he's ever worked with, suggesting that The One Show host Alex Jones should be in Tess's shoes "on the floor". He told Metro Scotland: "Alex Jones should be on the floor. She is probably the funniest presenter I've worked with."
He added: "With the formalities of The One Show, I don't think she gives the audience the opportunity to see her funny and irreverent side. She'd be perfect because she is one of the best in a live TV scenario. Absolutely brilliant.
"If they pick anyone but Alex, that person has to, literally, be made of liquid gold. Then upstairs, someone who knows the show better than most... Rylan."
However, Alex isn't the only person Vernon has named to replace Tess. In November last year, he joked: "I tell you who it is, it's me and Rylan. There you go, done, simple."
But he cleared up on Scott Mills' radio show: "Let me just say this for the record, and I know a lot of people listen to his because we get quoted a lot of times.
"Do you honestly think that the people at Strictly Come Dancing mid-series are going to have a roundtable about who is going to host it next year?"
He fumed: "Just behave yourselves! Wind your necks in, it does my head in!"
