It's not been a great week for Noni Madueke. Or football pundit Martin Keown, for that matter.

Madueke should hang his head in shame following his blatant act of cheating to help Arsenal escape Bayer Leverkusen with a draw in the Champions League.

And Keown should give his a wobble, if he thought Madueke deserved to win a penalty following a challenge from Malik Tillman. The England winger conned the referee. It's as simple as that.

Just like Harry Maguire did earlier this month, during Manchester United's home clash with Crystal Palace.

Aside from Keown, Mikel Arteta and those idiots running VAR, there's not a single person on the planet who thought the decision was right. And if Madueke is not careful, he will earn himself a reputation for diving.

While it might be too late for Keown. Keown has a responsibility to remain impartial during games. That's what his role as a summariser demands. But the former Arsenal defender appears incapable.

Talking in favour of the decision being a penalty, suggests Keown will be prepared to argue black is white, where Arsenal is concerned.

Because replays showed that while there was minimal contact, it didn't justify the reaction of Madueke. Madueke chose to go down, instead of being brought down.

And in doing so provided yet another damning indictment of how VAR continues to fail the sport. One of the main objectives of VAR continues to be one of its greatest failings.

Because VAR was supposed to eradicate dives. But as Madueke has shown, it has done the exact opposite and encouraged them. And the longer this is allowed to happen, the more players like him will exploit the situation.
