New Delhi: Kumbh Mela-famed Monalisa Bhonsle again came into the limelight after marrying a Muslim man. Her father alleged that she was a victim of Love Jihad and urged Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to intervene in the matter and bring her daughter back home safely after she married a Muslim man in Kerala.

Monalisa is an 18-year-old woman from Maheshwar town in Madhya Pradesh and belongs to the nomadic Pardhi community. On Wednesday, she married Farman Khan at the Nainar Temple at Arumanoor in Poovar, Kerala, in the presence of several state ministers.

Following marriage, Monalisa returned to his home in Madhya Pradesh, and his father alleged that she had become a victim of Love Jihad. The term Love Jihad is commonly used by right-wing groups, claiming that Muslim men lure Hindu women into relationships and marriage to change their religion from Hindu to Islam.

“My daughter has earned name across the country. I request Chief Minister Mohan Yadav to ensure Monalisa is brought back to MP safely. She has been trapped deceitfully by a Muslim youth, Farman Khan. It is a case of love jihad,” Monalisa’s father told reporters.

After stealing the limelight in the Kumbh Mela last year, Monalisa was seeking opportunities in the film industry, his father confirmed.

Monalisa got the opportunity to act in two movies and is also learning acting and dancing. His father said, I did not know something like this would happen after his daughter married a Muslim man.

Monalisa rejects her father’s allegations

In response, Monalisa rejected all the allegations and said her marriage decision was her own choice, and she married Farman according to Hindu customs.

“Our marriage was solemnised according to Hindu rituals. To be honest, he didn’t actually want to marry me, but I was the one who insisted. I practically forced him to marry me,” Monalisa said.

She also said that her father was forcing her to marry her paternal aunt’s son, and she opposed her father’s decision; that’s why he was upset with her decision.
