According to the official holiday calendar of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), bank holidays have been declared in major cities like New Delhi, Lucknow, Mumbai and Kolkata on the auspicious occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr (Ramzan Eid) and Jumat-ul-Vida. Due to the month of March being full of festivals, there is a huge impact on banking operations, hence it is very important for you to check the list of holidays before leaving home. There will be no work in these big cities today. According to RBI, banks will remain closed in the following cities today on March 20: North India: New Delhi, Lucknow, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Dehradun and Patna. West and Central India: Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Bhopal, Ranchi and Raipur. South and East India: Hyderabad, Kolkata, Guwahati, Thiruvananthapuram and Kochi.Note: Bank holidays vary state-wise. There is a holiday in some states where Eid is being celebrated today, while in other states business will proceed as usual. Why are today’s festivals special? There are two important occasions today. Jumat-ul-Vida is said to be the last Friday of Ramadan, in which people of the Muslim community offer special prayers. At the same time, Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated with brotherhood to celebrate the end of fasting for the whole month. These works will not stop despite the holiday. Customers do not need to panic even after the bank branches are closed. In the era of Digital India, the following facilities will remain operational 24×7: ATM: ATMs will remain open for cash withdrawal. Digital Banking: Net banking and mobile banking apps will remain active. UPI: Transactions will continue through platforms like PhonePe, Google Pay and Paytm. Caution: Physical work like check clearing and bank draft will not be possible today. Next holidays of March: Banks will remain closed for several more days. The last week of March is going to be very short in terms of banking operations. The upcoming holidays are as follows: March 21: Ramzan Eid / Sarhul (in many cities). March 22: Sunday (nationwide holiday). March 26: Ram Navami (in most states of the country). March 27: Ram Navami / Chaite Dashain (in select cities). March 31: Mahavir Jayanti (in major big cities).
