A number of people have been injured following a stabbing at a high school, according to reports.

At least five people are said to have been hurt in the incident at Foss High School in Tacoma, Washington state on Thursday, April 30.

Police have confirmed that one suspect has been taken into custody.

Tacoma Police have stated that those injured include four students and one security guard, according to KVUE.

The Tacoma Fire Department has confirmed that all those injured have been transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The stabbing was reported shortly before 1.40pm and the school remains in lockdown.

Parents are reportedly being informed of the situation.

Foss High School was previously the scene of a shooting that claimed the life of one student in January 2007, following which pupils were evacuated from the building.
