A doctored video of Elon Musk claiming that Pringles, the popular stackable potato-based snack, are "legally not allowed" to call themselves chips is going viral on social media. The clip, posted on Meta's Instagram by the user @radiance_rhythms, has been viewed nearly three million times. However, the claim is false; Musk never made such a statement. The video is taken from Musk's appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience more than four years ago and has been wrongly dubbed to make it seem like Musk said that Pringles aren't chips because they aren't made from real potatoes. In the video, the tech billionaire's lip movements do not match the audio.Read More: Trump Vs. Harris: Clash Over Presidential Debate Date And Network"Do you know that Pringles are legally not allowed to, um, call themselves chips? What are they then? So Pringles in, in 1975 lost a lawsuit where they were no longer able to call Pringles, Pringles chips because, um, apparently they're made with like a bunch of, uh, Of unnatural ingredients and um, apparently for any snack that wants to be categorized as a chip They have to be made with with like real potatoes," the audio in the video goes.

Elon Musk is further seen claiming that chips 'have to be sliced into small pieces and either baked or fried and that's considered a chip. But Pringles does not do that They have a, a paste that they make that's potato flavored, and they cut a piece out of that, and that's what's considered the, the Pringles chip, right?"Read More: Trump Supporters Rally In Golf Carts Days After Kamala's The Villages Show | VIDEO"What's in the paste, then?" Joe Rogan can be heard asking. Musk responds: "Honestly, Joe, I don't even want to know, but, but all I know is that when you look at a Pringles snack, it says, Pringles crisp, because they can't call it chips, so they have to call it a crisp." Are Pringles not chips?Pringles are not technically classified as "chips" in many jurisdictions, including the United States and the United Kingdom. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requires products labeled as "potato chips" to be made from thin slices of whole potatoes. However, Pringles are made from a dough-like mixture of dehydrated potato flakes, corn, and other ingredients that are pressed into their iconic shape.
