Now students can be admission to BTech and BS courses from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) even without passing the JEE exam. IIT Kanpur will admit students in BTech and BS courses through Olympiad. Admission through the Olympiad in the BTech-BS program of the institute will be done in five departments from the 2025-26 academic year.
Students will get admission through the Olympiad in the departments of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Chemistry, Economics and Mathematics, and Statistics. Admission to the Department of Biological Sciences and Bioengineering will be based on Olympiads in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. One candidate will be selected through the Mathematical Olympiad and one candidate will be selected from Biology, Physics, or Chemistry Olympiad.
IIT Kanpur Admission: How will the criteria be decided?
According to media reports, suppose there is only one student in both Mathematics and Biology, Physics or Chemistry Olympiad. In that case, that student will be included in the channel in which his rank is higher. If the candidate has the same rank in both channels, then the candidate will be included in the Mathematics channel.
IIT Kanpur B.tech Admission: How will admission be done in B.Tech CS?
Admission to the Department of Computer Science and Engineering will be done through the Olympiad in Mathematics and Information Science. Admission to the Department of Chemistry will be based on Olympiad in Chemistry. Admission to Economic Science Mathematics and Statistics will be based on the Olympiad in Mathematics. The institute will give admission to a total of 17 seats based on Olympiad rank.
IIT Kanpur: Admission will be decided by Olympiad rank
For admission, students will be shortlisted from the rank list of the respective Olympiad. The concerned departments of the institute will release an advertisement inviting applications for admission through the Olympiad for admission to be done in July of the new academic year in the first week of March.
