New Delhi: Arshdeep Singh is India’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, with 95 wickets to his name. A five-wicket haul in the upcoming series against England will make him the first Indian to reach 100 wickets in T20Is. The left-arm pacer is just two wickets away from surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal, aiming to become the Indian cricketer with the most wickets in T20Is.

India are set to return to white-ball action with a five-match T20I series against England, beginning January 22 (Wednesday). The squad for the series is yet to be announced, but one name likely to feature is Arshdeep Singh. A mainstay for India in the bowling department in the shortest format, Arshdeep had a stellar 2024. In the upcoming series, he is on the verge of achieving a massive milestone, potentially becoming the first Indian to reach a significant T20I feat. Arshdeep Singh is currently India’s second-highest wicket-taker in T20Is, with 95 wickets to his name. If he takes five more wickets in the series against England, he will become the first Indian player to reach 100 wickets in T20Is. He also needs just two more wickets to surpass Yuzvendra Chahal, making him the Indian bowler with the most wickets in T20I cricket.

Arshdeep Singh finished 2024 as India’s highest wicket-taker in T20Is with 35 wickets, including 17 scalps in the T20 World Cup. He is now just one wicket away from surpassing Yuzvendra Chahal to become India’s all-time leading wicket-taker in T20Is, with a total of 95 wickets, trailing Chahal by just one. With 96 wickets, Chahal currently holds the record, while other notable bowlers like Bhuvneshwar Kumar (90), Jasprit Bumrah (89), and Hardik Pandya (89) follow.

Arshdeep Singh is also a strong contender for India’s squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy, alongside Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. Only two out of these three pacers will make it to the playing XI, with Hardik Pandya likely serving as the third pace bowler. If Arshdeep is unavailable for ODIs, selectors may look to Khaleel Ahmed as an alternative, as he has impressed the team management. Mohammed Shami’s selection will depend on his fitness, according to reports.
