To aid with Los Angeles’ recovery from the horrific wildfires, Leonardo DiCaprio, a Hollywood icon, is contributing $1 million.
According to people.com, the Oscar winner said on his Instagram Stories on Wednesday, January 15, that he would be contributing $1 million to relief efforts.
“Our city is being devastated by the flames in Los Angeles. “To support both immediate needs and post-fire recovery efforts, I am committing $1 million in collaboration with @rewild’s Rapid Response Program,” he said.
“Initial aid will immediately benefit the LA Fire Department Foundation, California Fire Foundation, World Central Kitchen, California Community Foundation, Pasadena Humane Society, and SoCal Fire Fund—organizations on the frontlines providing much-needed resources to our first responders and firefighters, and the people, animals and communities who need it most,” stated the actor from “Don’t Look Up.”
L.A. native DiCaprio, who co-founded Re:wild, said that the organization’s Rapid Response Program is “uniquely positioned to respond to environmental disasters and emergencies.”
With thousands of people homeless and 25 confirmed dead, the flames that broke out on January 7 have grown to be the most catastrophic in Los Angeles’ history.
“Our great city and state and the great people who live and love there,” Jamie Lee Curtis stated on January 9, and her family promised to contribute $1 million to disaster relief efforts.
Halle Berry, Jessica Alba, Jennifer Garner, and other celebrities have offered their services to support first responders and fire-affected families.
Through her BeyGOOD charitable organization, Grammy winner Beyoncé is assisting individuals impacted by the fires in Los Angeles. Variety.com states that the charitable organization reportedly donated $2.5 million to assist families in rebuilding after suffering losses.
While Paramount and Fox Corp. contributed $1 million to the Los Angeles Fire Department and the American Red Cross, The Walt Disney Company committed $15 million to relief and reconstruction efforts for local communities.
A $1 million initial investment to fund relief and reconstruction efforts in the Los Angeles region was made by Warner Music and the Blavatnik Foundation.
Live Nation is organizing a FireAid benefit event at Intuit Dome in Inglewood, California, on January 30, in addition to accepting direct cash contributions.
