My husband’s family doesn’t respect me, treating me with a lack of empathy and without sharing or meaningful conversations, so I no longer want to live with them.

I’ve been married for 12 years and have 10-year-old twins. After suffering a financial downfall, we sold all our assets to manage our debts and moved from Ho Chi Minh City to Nghe An in Central Vietnam to live with my husband’s family. Currently, we still owe VND300 million (US$11,822), and our combined monthly income is VND30 million, which is considered good in the countryside. My husband is hardworking and shares the same goal of repaying our debt and saving money to eventually build a house of our own with me.

However, I don’t feel the same level of support from my husband’s family. I want to return to Ho Chi Minh City to rebuild our finances and start anew. With 10 years of experience as a chief accountant, I am confident in my ability to thrive financially in a major city. But my husband refuses to go with me and doesn’t support my decision, while I truly want to let go and pursue the life I desire.

What should I do in this situation?
