New Delhi : The debate about reducing working hours to 90 has gained momentum among employees around the world. It came into limelight when a statement by L&T (Larsen & Toubro) Chairman SN Subramaniam created a stir on social media. Talking to employees about long working hours, Subramaniam raised the question, “How long can you sit at home and stare at your wife?” The statement sparked immediate backlash with many people criticizing it on social media.

This statement of SN Subramaniam was made in a combine meeting with the employees, in which he asked the employees for how long they can sit at home and see their wives. He also said that he would be happy if he could force her to work on Sundays also, because he himself works on Sundays also. There were strong reactions on social media regarding his statement, in which people called it an unfair attitude towards family life and women.

Zomato and Durex's answer

While Zomato made fun of the comment by saying that those who are without a wife can stare at their orders on the app, condom maker Durex gave an interesting and cheeky reply. Durex wrote in its Instagram post, “It is not necessary to stare at the wife.” After this, he posted a picture of a blindfold, hinting that the use of glasses or a bandage might be a solution to the problem. In this post Durex also gave L&T the funny name of “Love & Tease Corporation”.

L&T Chairman's clarification

After SN Subramaniam's statement, L&T said that it was taken out of context. A senior company official posted on LinkedIn saying that Subramaniam did not in any way encourage the policy of working 90 hours. He just used it as an example and it was presented in a wrong way.
