A sensational return to for Jota has reportedly been agreed. As Kyogo Furuhashi prepares to join French Ligue 1 side Rennes, Jota is set to head back to Parkhead after being sidelined by manager Jorge Sampaoli.

Transfer expert claims that a £8.4m fee has been agreed with Celtic for Jota, including a 10 per cent sell-on clause. This deal will end a difficult period for the former Benfica player.

After leaving the Premiership champions in a record-breaking £25million deal for Saudi Arabia, Jota struggled to settle.

Shortly after joining Al-Ittihad, he was left out of their Saudi Pro League squad and was forced to watch from the stands until Asian Champions League matches came around, where he found himself on the fringes of the starting XI.

A move to France last summer seemed to have ended his exile, but Sampaoli's appointment saw the 25-year-old sidelined once again. With the Argentine eager to make room for new players, Jota was one of several players excluded from first-team training, along with ex-Rangers star Glen Kamara.

However, he is now set to seal a sensational return, and he might not be the only one. Brendan Rodgers appears keen to reunite the old team, and a pre-contract agreement with Kieran Tierney is believed to be close.

It remains uncertain whether a discounted January deal with Arsenal can be agreed upon. However, it appears that Celtic supporters may be welcoming back two popular figures, as another departs for new opportunities in a move that is financially sound for the club.

Calum McGregor did try to persuade Celtic out of selling Kyogo to Rennes after his stunning Champions League display: "He's a top player. Again, you see his quality, his movement, the way he sets the tone for the team.

"All our good players, we want to keep them for as long as we can and generally when there's speculation, then people have done well so we want that as well.

"It gets people talking about Celtic and the players that we've got so I'm sure the club will do everything they can to keep him because he's a top player and a top person as well."

But it appears that his pleas have fallen off deaf ears.
