The supermarket said: "Due to the warning of extreme weather today, and the issuing of red weather alerts across Scotland Northern Ireland, we have taken the decision to close some of our stores until it is safe to repoen.

"The safety of our colleagues and customers is paramount and so all Asda stores in Northern Ireland have been closed from 6am today, until it is safe to reopen. Scottish stores in the worst hit regions will be closed from 9am.

"This also means that our Grocery Home Shopping and Click and Collect services scheduled today have been cancelled. Our teams will contact any affected customers directly. We thank all our customers and colleagues for their understanding and advise everyone to follow guidance for their area."
